Exclusive interview; Jobe rider Marc Shuster

26 juni 2013
Hi marc, tell us a little about yourself especially for the people who don’t know you.
Well, not much to know about me besides I love Wakeboarding and traveling. I also may or may not be the best rapper alive but I guess that's debatable.

Lets start with a bit of a corny question, how did you get into wakeboarding ?
I got into Wakeboarding when I tried it in summer camp when I was about 12. I didn't have access to a boat so I started riding frequently at my home cable (Ski Rixen) in Deerfield Beach and was immediately hooked.

This question may be important for the girls^^, are you single ? and do you live on your own or have any pets ?
Ooooh that's a tough question haha! "Technically" I'm single but I am seeing a special little lady at the moment. I live on my own and have a dog named Ted. He takes big boy poops and is the most lovable pup you'll ever meet.

Did you participate on a wakeboardevent lately ?if so what was the result ?
I just got back from Cablestock in Texas, it was such a great event! Unfortunately I didn't do as well as I would have liked. I went too easy and misjudged my heat like an idiot because I was worried about my knee. Stupid, I know :(

Which JOBE board do you like the most ? and why ?
Honestly they all have their strengths. I've been riding the Liberty a lot because I love it for kickers and rails although I prefer the Decx for air tricks. It really depends on how I'm feeling that day.

Are there other sports you do besides wakeboarding ?
I love motocross and driving/drifting although I don't get to do it as much as I would like. Plus it would really suck to injure myself in other sports and not be able to wakeboard.

Is there a sports team where you’re a big fan of ?
Not really. Im not a huge fan of ball sports but love watching all board sports.

What is the biggest achievement you’ve ever accomplished in wakeboarding?
I guess the one that stands out most for people is my World Championship title in 2005 but that's not the one that stands out to me. As much as I enjoy competitions I feel that there's a whole lot more to Wakeboarding than finding out who is the best rider that day. I still feel that competitions are important although it’s not personally my number one priority anymore. That being said, every achievement is big for me and I'm always super pumped when I make it on podium.

Who do you consider the best wakeboarder in the world? You can’t choose yourself ;)
That's a tough question. I mean, there are so many unbelievably talented riders out there now that I couldn't choose just one. I usually just look for who is the most versatile while keeping everything stylish in their own way.

What’s the biggest wakeboard crash you ever had ?
Worst fall I've had was learning doubles bends when I was 14. I knocked myself out. I would tell you more about it but I really don't remember it even happening. Guess that's a good thing?

What does a normal day look like for you ?and what are things you do in the weekend or when you're not wakeboarding ?
Whenever I'm not Wakeboarding or traveling I'm at home working and keeping myself busy. I keep telling myself I'm a millionaire but I'm broke right now. My weekends are usually filled with family, friends and riding. What else could you want?

How do you look at wakeboarding ? do you consider it a lifestyle or just a sport ?
Wakeboarding is definitely a lifestyle. I've literally shaped my entire life off of Wakeboarding. My style, my friends etc...everything in my life is centered on the sport.

What is the most beautifull place you ever wakeboarded ?
One of the places that stuck out to me was Austria. It was so beautiful! Also Turkey, Thailand, Philippines and many more. Every place is beautiful and unique in their own way.

And which other place would you like to visit to ride some wakes ?
EVERYWHERE! Haha, I love traveling and meeting people so the more places I can go the happier I am.

When are you coming to visit us in the beautiful Netherlands ?
How's tomorrow sound? .... I wish! I always have such a great time in the Netherlands so I hope to be back soon!

Thanks for the interview marc is there anything you want to add to this interview ?

I’d like to give a big thanks to my family for being so supportive as well as my sponsors Jobe, Sooruz & Ski Rixen. You are only as good as your team and I'm so lucky to have a strong team surrounding me.
