The importance of enough traction and speed in backrolls

Traction in a board gives you more control when riding. More traction means improved grip, making it easier to hold an edge and to boost your tricks. The more and deeper the channels, the more traction you have and the easier it is to boost tricks like a backflip. This will give you improved grip, making it easier to hold an edge and to boost your tricks. The more and deeper channels that a board has the better your traction will be. A board with speed is good for hitting obstacles with a need for speed! When you start edging, you want a board to start accelerating. And to do that we’ve made some of our boards smaller in the tip and tail giving them a thinner outline. This will help you speed up once you start edging. The Jobe Breach is a prime example of a board with traction and speed.

▶Go in hard and wide.

▶Slightly shift your weight onto your rear foot.

▶Immediately after pushing off, throw your shoulders and head upwards and to the right (or to the left if you’re regular). Keep in mind that the backroll is a sideways rotation, a cartwheel, so keep your body in a single plane.

▶Draw your knees up to your chest and keep both hands on the handle.

▶You will only spot your landing at the very last moment, so as soon as you see water, release your rear hand and straighten out slightly, guaranteeing yourself a softer landing.
