The Backflip
“Today we want to explain a very cool trick, the Backflip. It is an absolute expert trick so don’t try it if it doesn’t feel safe and you can’t do a normal straight jump and spin over the kicker.
The Backflip looks really impressive because you’re in the air upside-down so your board is pointing to the sky.
To get started, make sure your knee straps are tight so that you can’t lose the board. Now you are ready for some action! Prepare yourself on the flat water and imagine the jump first. Pull the handle towards your chest and flip your head in your neck, because that is basically all you need to do.
If you are comfortable with these movements you could handle the kicker. Make sure you hit the ramp with enough speed so you have enough airtime, and make sure you hit the kicker straight. While you are going up, pull yourself towards the handle so you hold the handle close to your chest. The closer your hands and your body are together the easier it is to rotate for the Backflip. Once you are on the edge of the kicker and your board is just leaving the ramp, release one hand so that you can turn around on one side of the rope. Flick your head into your neck as fast and hard as you can and try to pull your whole body into that spin movement. Now it is important to keep your head in your neck until you see the horizon in front of you again. If you see the horizon you have nearly made it… Your body will be turned by itself just by the hard flip of your head. Just pull your lower body afterwards so you spin with the whole body once around yourself. Putt your head up straight into the normal position again and grab the handle again with both hands and try to land smoothly. It is no problem if you over spin a little, you will still be able to land the trick. Make sure the whole movement is one smooth flow.
We hope you will enjoy this trick and have a good start in the next season with JOBE and stay tuned for more Kneeboard action.
