Mix & Match: how it is created
4 Februar 2019
Introduction
Jobe’s aim is to offer the full watersports experience throughout an extensive range of products. Within this range you will find different items designed for specific sports and or enjoyable moments. Nevertheless we find it very important that all Jobe products are recognizable and have a distinct Jobe look. Our collection consists of products with different specifications and in different price ranges. And though we like to share our product expertise we also want to give consumers the freedom to combine products that they seem fit.
The challenge
The big challenge every year is to come up with a color palette and design styles that suit both a high end wakeboard and a more basic nylon vest. This is where our
Mix & Match concept is born.
The process
The process of creating and designing a collection starts with coming up with a color palette. For us this means this palette is always a combination of traditional boating colors (red / blue) combined with a trend palette. Consequently, we have to be on top of trends all the time. Therefore we attend numerous trend fairs, analyze our data and mix this with our personal taste and ideas. We also like to play with accent colors that run throughout the collection to get a good sense of cohesion.
After that we start to experiment with patterns and prints. We strive to create modern, accessible and timeless designs that fit the Jobe brand. So rather than using very expressive or symbolic graphics, we tend to use more subtile artwork and play with different materials, printing techniques, inks and laminates. It’s nice to see that a certain bold pattern on a towable can also work perfectly as a transparent matte layer on a wakeboard. To create a collection where such different products have a good sense of unity without compromising their individual aesthetic is what we wake up for every day.
The result
The 2019 collection contains a lot of new trend-colors: dark teal, army green, hot pink, cool gray, indigo blue and Bordeaux red.
